Stone houses, sheep bells, hand-knitted wool and a canyon view worthy of a National Geographic cover. The Bosnia you dreamed of — no crowds, no coach parks.

A private tour to Bosnia's highest village

Lukomir sits on the edge of the Rakitnica Canyon on Bjelašnica mountain, less than two hours from Sarajevo. It is the highest permanently inhabited village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with stone houses, traditional shepherd life and wide open views that feel a world away from the city.

On this private tour your local English-speaking driver-guide takes you from your accommodation in Sarajevo across the Bjelašnica plateau, with stops for photos and short walks. In the village there is time to see the old houses, enjoy a homemade lunch and look down into the canyon.

Car tour or 4x4 full experience

You can choose a regular car tour for up to 4 people, or the 4x4 full experience for up to 4 people, which takes you further along the mountain roads for an even more adventurous day. Both options are fully private, so the pace and stops are up to you.

Lukomir is a great choice for nature lovers, photographers and families who want to see a quieter side of Bosnia. For more nature close to Sarajevo, also see our Vrelo Bosne and Bijambare tour.
